Discription of project by Architects:
The project involves a complex designated as architectural heritage, consisting of a main building with a house chapel (circa 1495) and a coach house. The existing complex has evolved in appearance due to renovations and expansions over the centuries.
Our design approach focuses on stripping the existing building of its anomalies and working from the coherent series of renovations that took place throughout history up to the 19th century. Additionally, on the second inner courtyard, a contemporary glazed coach house will be added, inspired by the existing coach house. This new structure will literally reflect the site's history while continuing its rich tradition of transformation. In this way, the main building will also regain its full splendor on the second inner courtyard.
Beyond the residential aspect, special attention must also be given to the bookstore on the ground floor and the antiquarian bookshop, which will house the extensive historical archive of the renowned bookstore ‘De Slegte.’
